1. I Might Be Broken
Sometimes I don’t know when I’m lying
I believe it as it’s coming out my mouth
Something’s in there underneath
I crack, the truth begins to leak
Feel like a fraud for pretending
Sometimes I get so mad I think I might explode
There aren’t enough cuss words to keep the pressure low
If lose my shit today
I hope you’ll love me anyway
I hope it’s not enough to count me out
I think the truth is that we all are broken
We’re shifting beneath the cracks we try to fix
Movement’s good when staying still will suffocate the breathe to heal
I’m moving through the changes that I need
To become the person I want to be
Don’t think I like this—being honest
The truth of it is I’m crawling out my skin
I’ll think about it all tonight
When I’m trying to win fight
I’m always having with my insides
I’m sick of living on the fringes
It’s never perfect enough to jump right in
Working hard on letting go
Digging myself out of this hole
I know damn well that I created
I think the truth is that we all are broken
We’re shifting beneath the cracks we try to fix
Movement’s good when staying still will suffocate the breathe to heal
I’m moving through the changes that I need
To become the person I want to be
I want to open up I really do
Sometimes I get so tight nothing can through
I’m hoping that you’ll try again
And I will try to let you in
oh god I hope you can get in
Something deep inside is softer
She is everything you always wanted
She might be broken, beat, and bruised
She holds the love I have for you
She’s not afraid of what she’s gotten
I think the truth is that I might be broken
Shifting beneath the cracks I try to fix
Movement’s good cause staying still was suffocating my breathe to heal
I’m moving through the changes that I need
To become the person I want to be
I think caught my breath enough to see
The person I want to be
Stick around and you will see
The person I can be
2. Just a Girl To You
My hair is always messy
There’s never make up on my face
I care way more about my brains
than anything that’s fake
I’m usually in sneakers
I’ve never had a pair heels I could take
I care more about conversations
Than whether I turn you on
I don’t use my looks as currency
And I don’t exploit your brawn
I’ll pay for everything myself
I might even pay for you
EG
It doesn’t matter what I do
I’m just a girl to you
It doesn’t matter what I say
Unless it’s repeated by a man
I could learn everything there is to know
And I’d still be questioned
The subject is my specialty
But ill need him to help me with my plans
If I’m honesty about my identity
I’m probably not she/her
I’ll fart and burp out loud
Wipe my face sweat on my shirt
I’ve never played the game you made
I never thought it was true
It doesn’t matter what I do
I’m just a girl to you
It never matters what I do
I’m just a girl to you
I’ve gone through these examples
But what have I got to prove
I can create life with what’s inside me
But you don’t trust me to choose
We suffer in these stupid games
And you’re here suffering too
But it doesn’t matter what I do
I’m just a girl to you
But it doesn’t matter what I say or I do
I’m just a girl to you
It will never matters what I what I do
When I’m just a girl to you
3. Careless Feels Like Violence to Sensitive People
I wish my heart didn’t have a pay wall
I wish I could let everybody in
It hurts too much without a buffer
And I have to feel safe inside my skin
Every where I go
I have to take it slow
Soon enough I’ll know
If I have to leave
I wish I could be silent in these spaces
That are always screaming back at me
I wish I didn’t have to let go of things I love
Cause they hit me far too deep
Every where I go
I have to take it slow
Soon enough I’ll know
If I have to leave
I’ve already been down the road
Of wishing I was some one else who didn’t need so much to cope
I’ve already found a lot of love
So I should be grateful
Everybody thinks they are the good guy
Until you ask for what you need
I’m done feeling like I’m too much to be loved
I can’t be something I can’t be
Every where I go
I have to take it slow
Soon enough I’ll know
If I have to leave
4. Its Dark Here on the Ground
I wear my shades inside
I won’t let you see me cry
My tears fall down like rain
To get through all this pain
I’m always falling far too deeply
I know it didn’t mean that much to you
If I’m going to break my heart
I don’t need you to view
I’m already embarrassed enough
Not good at acting tough
I wish I could
Pretend it wasn’t good
I know this was once in a lifetime
And all that life is gone
I guess I’ll just sit down, cry
And write a song
I used to feel like I was flying
You always took me there
It’s dark here on the ground
Knowing I might never fly again
Its a hard pill to swallow
It kind of had to be this way
You know it wasn’t working
And I know I can’t change
I didn’t think my heart would break this much
Not good at acting tough
I wish I could
Pretend it wasn’t good
I know this was once in a lifetime
And all that life is gone
I guess I’ll just sit down, cry
And write a song
Part of me wishes you were broken
Maybe it meant this much to you
But you moved on so quickly
And I can barely move
It’s really just rejection
That would make me wish you harm
The truth is it was special
I’ll remember it till I’m gone
I didn’t think my heart could break this much
Not good at acting tough
I wish I could
Pretend it wasn’t good
I know this was once in a lifetime
And all that life is gone
I guess I’ll just sit down, cry
And write a song
You probably won’t see me cry
But you might hear this song
And if you do
Thank you for incredible time
And thank you for this song
5. Apology Tour
When you let reckless people play with fragile things
they often end up breaking
I came in with a heart that was wide open
Everyone’s for the taking
It took so long for me to heal
Feel safe enough to be me
Why do I feel sorry it didn’t appeal
Appeal to everybody
If you make it past the apology the tour
I think you’ll see that every time you close a door
It was something
You were giving away for nothing
What will you do with all this new found energy
I think this time I’m gonna put it back in me
Was it something?
Or were you hiding that you felt like nothing
I’ve got a Notes app full of lyrics and sorries.
Thinking either one will get me seen.
Spinning out on what I could have done better
But betters always been enough for me
It’s pearls before swine
You never really wanted to know me
It doesn’t matter if I’m fine
forgotten instantly
If you make it past the apology the tour
I think you’ll see that every time you close a door
It’s was something
You were giving away for nothing
What will you do with all this new found energy
I think this time I’m gonna put it back in me
Was it something?
Or were you hiding that you felt like nothing
Remembering smiles that were fake
I’m usually better at this kind of thing
I know I’ll make the same mistake again
I can’t walk around assuming I’m hated
I’m still going to operate from a place of good faith
This childishness isn’t going to leave me changed
Standing up and dusting off the pain
They almost walked away with everything
Don’t give reckless people your fragile things
Don’t let the flightless clip you wings
Don’t ever forget yourself again
Don’t ever forget yourself again
Save it for the ones who love you today
I’m not gonna waste anymore of my time
Liner Notes
This album is dedicated to all the people out there doing the work of feeling and even harder—reaching out for help and support in those times. Happiness, fulfillment, and calm come when we are brave enough to be vulnerable with ourselves and others. It’s in that vulnerability that we find the most beautiful parts of ourselves and the people that really see it, appreciate it, and love it unconditionally. I see you, I love you, and I can’t wait to see what only you can bring to this world!
I want to thank some really special people that I feel so lucky to have in my corner. This album is ultimately about finding your worth through the curation of a support system that sees and values you. These people received early cuts of the songs and gave honest, thoughtful feedback that didn’t just make the recordings better—they gave me the confidence and support I needed to share them.
Gem Stone, Libby Alois, Margaret Hodges, Jeff Schmidt, Dave Toby, Tom Sarnacki, and Ashley Rutledge.
